Today a Toshiba Satellite L55t laptop came in for repair. The owner told us that it had a bad hinge.
Laptop hinge problems can be a variety of issues: sometimes the metal hinge is broken, but in many cases with HP, ACER, Gateway, ASUS and Toshiba laptops, the plastic that the hinge attaches to is what is broken.
In this particular case, the L55t unit needed a new LCD cover, also known as a “lid” or “top cover”. Without this replacement, the unit could not properly open and close. Kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop!
We do so many hinge replacements, we have a page dedicated to the repair here: laptop LCD Hinge Repair.
The Toshiba Satellite L55t laptop is definitely worth fixing and keeping around a bit longer as it is a 15.6″ unit with an Intel i5 processor and 8GB of RAM. The unit shipped with Windows 8.1 but of course is eligible for a free Windows 10 upgrade.
While we can get many lids new, at the present time, the only available lid for the L55t is a used lid. We can source these parts. Most lid replacements run anywhere from $69 – $149 although prices vary drastically depending on supply and demand.
