Dell Precision M3800 LCD Replacement

Today we had a Dell Precision M3800 come in with cracked glass on the LCD. Looking straight at the machine, the cracks were unnoticeable. The panel itself was ok but the front glass is glued to the LCD in a way that makes taking them apart impossible (more on this soon).

Released in 2015, the Dell Precision M3800 mobile workstation is a very slim and powerful machine. It also comes with 3 different types of LCDs.

Types of LCDs the Dell Precision M3800 Uses:

Below are the names of the LCD screens as Dell refers to them:

  • 15.6″ FHD (1920×1080): Dell UltraSharp™, 5 finger multi-touch, wide view, LED-backlit, Premium Panel
  • 15.6″ QHD+ (3200×1800): Dell UltraSharp™, 5 finger multi-touch, wide view, LED-backlit, Premium Panel
  • 15.6″ UHD (3840×2160): aka Dell UltraSharp™ IGZO UHD Touch (3840×2160) 4K2K Wide View LED-backlit with Premium Panel

Laptop display resolutions and definitions

  • What is FHD? FHD is “Full HD resolution” and has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • What is QHD+? The standard name for this resolution is WQXGA+. Sometimes it is referred to as QHD or QHD+. QHD+ has a resolution of 3200×1800 in a 16:9 aspect ratio. That sounds twice as nice as the 1600×900 HD+ resolution, but, WQXGA+ has four times as many pixels. Dell refers to this “Ultrasharp™ QHD+”.
  • What is UHD 4K? UHD is Ultra HD and is a display resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. UHD is not 4k resolution. UHD is also not UHDTV.
