This is a picture of a Dell 1545’s lid and what goes wrong with them. We replace a lot of these here. Dell refuses to replace the lids even when the units are under warranty. When we have the same machine come in 50+ times with the same precise problem it is very obviously not customer abuse. Some things never change.

We had a Dell LCD (model E198FPf) come in today. The customer did not want it any more and they gave it to us. For giggles we opened it, and as suspected, it had bad capacitors. We replaced them and the LCD is up and running again.

This is what to do if your Dell Inspiron 1525 stops recognizing AC adapters.
We get a lot of them in and the power going in from the center pin is not making it to the part of the board where it should be.
We take a wire and run it from the center of the jack over to pin 5 on the connector.

Models affected:
Dell Inspiron E1405, 640M

e1405
Symptoms:
The left touchpad mouse button stays depressed while not in use. The button may work if pressed on “just right”.
Problem:
This problem can happen in almost any laptop, and we have had a large number of E1405 and 640M laptops in for this issue.
Solution:
The solution is to have the button replaced. We carry brand new replacements. The palm rest, touchpad & mouse buttons are all replaced at the same time giving the laptop a fresh, clean appearance. While inside the computer we also clean out the fan. The repair is typically $99 which includes both parts and labor. Call for current pricing, it may change in the future. We have heard reports online of people being charged even more for this part and service. If repair is not an option you could also use an external mouse. The Dell Inspiron 9300, 9400 and E1705 models keep us very busy. The 17” Widescreens seem to go out on this model a lot due to failures with the electronics. The solution is to replace the LCD. Usually the colors are inverted, or there is a white bad in the screen, or you may experience lines in the screen.
We typically stock screens for these. Decent used screens are usually in stock and for a little more you can get a brand new screen for it. Most used screens are around $119 installed. Many of the new screens are around $199 installed (as of August 2010). There are a variety of screens available from WXGA, WSXGA, WUXGA, matter & glossy.
If you have one of these models with a problem screen please feel free to contact us for a price quite. Please include the service tag # from the bottom of the laptop and send us an email or just get the unit here for repair.
