DV9000 numeric keypad problem
Wednesday, December 23, 2009
Even though the DV9000 has its own dedicated numeric keypad, some DV9000 laptops will suddenly go into numeric keypad mode and the user will not be able to use the keyboard; pressing U will type a 4, I 5, O 6, etc. Without replacing parts the easiest way to remedy this problem is to follow these steps:
1. Open up the on screen keyboard by using Run | osk.exe
2. When the on screen keyboard opens up click the [numlock] button on the onscreen keyboard, by doing this the [numlock] light on the physical keyboard should light up.
3. Exit the on screen keyboard.
4. After this the keyboard should print the numbers from the numpad and not alter the keys in the main keyboard.
The fix works till you toggle the [numlock] button on the physical keyboard, if you do the problem reoccurs.
