HP Pavilion s3100n Slimline home PC (GJ474AA) Problem
Thursday, February 19, 2009

We had a HP Pavilion s3100n Slimline home PC (GJ474AA) come in this week. The motherboard was bad. We started pricing up the motherboard RX890-69001 (which has been replaced by 5188-7102) and discovered that this machine has the Nvidia GPU problem. HP will fix the machine as stated on their website here.

I have a HP Pavilion s3100n Slimline PC with the identical problem that you described. After reading your blog, I called HP Customer Care. The Tech was excellent. He walked me thru a couple of tests to determine that the motherboard was defective. HP is sending me shipping & packing materials to ship the PC to them for repair at no charge. Thank you for your blog.

That's it. Just plop it in the box and send it out. Remove your hard drive first if you have important data! You'll probably get the unit back in a couple weeks.

I have a s7700n and need to add a PCI video card. Part of the change requires me to upgrade the power suppy to 300 watts - any idea what and where I need to buy?

Not off hand. If it were right here we could look at it and see what would physically fit in there. Your options are limited with that small form factor- most of the performance power supplies are standard ATX size..

Actually, if you're just adding a PCI video card you an probably do that w/out upgrading the power supply.
