Dell Inspiron 6000 LCD

We have been getting in quite a few Dell Inspiron 6000 laptops in lately.
This week in particular we had a few come in for a new LCD. One of the 6000s had been dropped and the screen was very cracked. The other started to melt! The backlight area had become very hot; we still want to investigate the old screen here on a rainy day…
Most of the Dell Inspiron 6000 laptops that we have seen have a 15.4” WXGA LCD. Those are around $299.

Thanks to Neil at Dell HQ! He read about our rare case of a Dell 6000 LCD with a melting backlight, sent a box to us for the old one and replaced it, free of charge. We both concluded that this was a rare issue with an LCD. The area around the backlight had become fairly melted, so what went wrong is anyone’s guess. Our best guess is that the laptop as dropped and the backlight developed a tiny crack at the end or the wiring to the backlight was barely making a connection, creating an abnormal amount of heat. Seeing a company standing behind one of their products is refreshing. Thanks Neil!
