ThinkPad R50e Running from Battery only

This week an IBM ThinkPad R50e laptop came in for repair. It was running on battery only and would not recognize the AC adapter or power cord. This is a rare issue for an R50e.
During our free diagnostics we discovered a component on the motherboard had failed. We were able to replace the component. Our customer had been quoted $700 for a repair elsewhere but was able to get it repaired with us as a standard motherboard repair @ $149!

No display on this model could be several issues. Send it in to IBM and get a quote, when they quote you they'll tell you the problem. Could be the motherboard, inverter or LCD or something else.

Update 05/08/09:
We're still getting in an R50/R50e with this issue on ocassion.
