Dell Inspiron 8100: Load fans
This week another Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop came in. This one had "loud fans."
The 8100 has dual exhaust fans on it. One had seized, the other was very loud and running very hard trying to keep the unit cool. We happened to have one fan assembly in stock and installed it. The LCD and motherboard have to come out of this model to get the fans in, so it wasn't the quickest repair we have done but so many 8100s have been through here it was still a speedy repair.

I don't suppose the Inspiron 3500 has the same problem? Just installed Ubuntu Linux on my OLD laptop and the fan is constantly turning on and off, and it's LOUD. Never noticed that when I first got it.
